Daffodil: flower of the month of March; symbolism of friendship and happiness. It was during the Victorian Era that the language of flowers developed in response to the restricted mores of the times which frowned upon overt expressions of love and affection. Messages of ardor were assigned to specific flowers, thus allowing a lover to communicate his sentiments chastely and appropriately.
